Suryakumar Yadav became Mumbai Indians' second-highest T20 run-scorer, surpassing Kieron Pollard with 3,933 runs during an IPL 2026 match against CSK. Despite this personal milestone, MI suffered an eight-wicket loss, significantly denting their playoff aspirations as CSK secured a dominant victory.
Suryakumar Yadav added another milestone to his illustrious T20 career on May 2, 2026, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in Mumbai Indians history across all T20 competitions.
The landmark came during Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. A modest 21-run knock was enough for Suryakumar to take his tally to 3,933 runs for the franchise, surpassing the long-standing record of Kieron Pollard, who had scored 3,915 runs.
Suryakumar needed just four runs to go past Pollard before the match began, and he wasted no time. The stylish right-hander reached the milestone in emphatic fashion, dispatching the very first ball he faced to the boundary. While Pollard’s contribution to Mumbai Indians spanned 193 innings, Suryakumar has climbed to second place in just 121 innings, underlining his remarkable consistency and impact. He currently averages over 37 for the franchise, showcasing both reliability and flair in the middle order.
MI’s all-time T20 run-scorers
At the top of the list remains franchise icon Rohit Sharma, who continues to lead by a significant margin.
Rohit Sharma – 6,286 runs
Suryakumar Yadav – 3,933 runs
Kieron Pollard – 3,915 runs
Ambati Rayudu – 2,635 runs
Sachin Tendulkar – 2,599 runs
A mixed season so far
Despite reaching this significant milestone, Suryakumar’s IPL 2026 campaign has been far from his usual standards. He has managed just 183 runs in nine matches.
CSK dominated MI again
Mumbai Indians’ playoff hopes took a major hit after an eight-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The defeat all but ends MI’s chances of reaching the top four, while CSK stay alive in the race.
After a strong start, MI collapsed from a promising position to finish at 159/7, with Naman Dhir top-scoring with 57. The middle order once again faltered, unable to capitalise despite a solid platform.
CSK’s bowling was led by Anshul Kamboj (3/32), while Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton applied consistent pressure through the middle overs.
In reply, CSK chased down the target comfortably, powered by an unbeaten 67 from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and a steady 54* from Kartik Sharma. The clinical chase sealed a league double over MI and kept CSK’s playoff hopes alive.
